Welcome to the Experience!

When a new client comes through my door, they are often hesitant, especially if it’s their first time having Reiki. It has only gained significant popularity in the last few years. I believe TikTok may have something to do with that, and I also think TikTok makes it look like some Woo Woo, new age bullshit. Reiki, as we know it today, has been around since 1922, but the healing practice has been in existence for centuries. In 1922, a new system of teaching was created in Japan, but it remained in the East until the 70’s when it was brought to Hawaii before spreading to the mainland and across the West. Now it’s practiced globally. There are different lineages, and no practitioner is the same; you may resonate with one Reiki Master and have a “magical” experience, and you may go to another one and not feel anything. I have had Reiki sessions with various practitioners and taken classes from a diverse range of individuals, and it’s never been the same; they don’t approach it the way I do either.

What I can tell you is that most of the time people come to see me, they make a second appointment and that’s not to toot my own horn (maybe a bit), but it's to say that it's obviously helping people in a way that they are willing to spend hard-earned money to come back. The thing about Reiki is that the sessions are individual, based on what your body needs and how your body moves the energy and releases energetic blocks. That’s why when a person comes in new to Reiki, I say Welcome to the Experience! It’s your experience; I can’t predict what will happen during your session. I can tell you the basics: warm sensations, tingles, visions, losing track of time and space, body jerks, and tears, to name a few. No one is the same, and people who come in regularly have a different experience each time. Reiki meets you where you are at that time. People may burst into tears and have no idea why, but it’s precisely what they needed. Some people hop off the table feeling great, while others feel like they can’t move their arms; they are so heavy. People will think I’m at their head only to feel me touch their knee, yet their elbow is still warm and tingling from when I was working on that part of the body. Like I said, it’s your experience.

I have had the privilege of working with a few clients for several consecutive months, and it has

been literally life-changing when nothing else would do the trick. They look brighter and their energy feels lighter. These people were hesitant when they first came through the door, too, but the benefits are real, so they continue to come back. I had a Chief of Medicine come in to try it because they are considering training their medical team in it. I’ve had people who are going through chemo come in the day before their treatment because their doctor said it can’t hurt, and it may help. Science hasn’t caught up in a way that will legitimize Reiki, yet, but it’s coming. Hospitals and hospices are using it as part of holistic care, particularly with cancer patients. Science can prove that humans and every living thing have a measurable biofield of energy surrounding them. Reiki works even if we aren’t totally sure how it's happening, and people all over the globe can testify to that.

So, if you’ve been considering trying Reiki but you’re scared, that’s ok, try it anyway! I can make it as Woo as you want, or you can come in, get a treatment, and leave. I would say that if it's your first time, allow yourself time to sit on my couch and process afterwards. If you’ve been in, you know what I’m talking about!
